Rightmove Overseas has carried out research which suggests that Spain is the top location for Britons looking to purchase property overseas. Rightmove has conducted research which shows that there have been more than 2.5 million property searches in Spain conducted from the UK each month. This figure sits at 74% higher than France which is the second most searched location.

Located just 2 hours away by plane and with an average enquiry price of €156,940, Spain was shown to be a consistent leader for those looking at property in different property. Figures have been collected from property searches from major UK cities over the 2016-2017 period, with in interest in Spain being shown across the UK. The summer destination is seen as the number one destination for Britons from Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Nottingham and Sheffield.

The results of the Rightmove research has shown that Spain is most popular with the Scottish, as over 54% of the searches for property in Spain came from Glasgow, closely followed by Liverpool. The figures also show France as a consistent second in the property searches in terms of the UK interest per city. Most French property searches came from Cardiff, London and Bristol.

In terms of location, Alicante tops the most searched property destination in Spain. This may be because ALicante also has the lowest average enquiry price of these sunny regions at €126,053. According to the figures collected by Rightmove, 62% of the enquiries for houses are for houses in Alicante, while 38% are looking looking for flats or apartments.

With an average of 2.5 million searches for property in in Spain every month, the country is very obviously in demand as a location for property seekers. There is a large expat community already present in Spain, which could be a reason for the popularity, as well as the food, the temperature or the appeal of the relaxed spanish culture being equally appealing prospects.
