A new 1,200-home Springstead Village project has launched in Cherry Hinton in Cambridge.

Springstead Village is a collaboration between homebuilder Bellway, and Latimer, which is the development arm of affordable homes provider Clarion Housing.

It is being built on 138 acres of land that were previously part of the Cambridge Airport site.

Deputy Mayor of Cambridge, Councillor Baiju Thittala Varkey, cut the ribbon to open the sales centre during an event to mark the unveiling of four showhomes.

Ulrich van Eck, Project Director for Bellway Latimer, said: “It was a landmark moment to open the sales centre and showhomes. There is significant demand for homes at Springstead Village – that much is clear.

“Visitors were particularly interested in our sustainable approach, with energy-efficiency measures in each of the homes, the creation of new wildlife habitats, and plenty of green open space.

“With a network of footpaths and cycle routes, as well as sports facilities, this is going to be a neighbourhood where people enjoy life and live well.

“This major project is truly setting new standards in placemaking, and we look forward to seeing a wonderful new community develop here.”

The scheme will include a range of properties from apartments to four-bedroom detached houses. Of these homes, 40 per cent will be affordable properties, for rent or shared ownership.

A £16 million investment in the area by Bellway Latimer through its planning agreement will support education, health, leisure, and transport, while the new community will feature new schools, sports facilities, allotments, and a local centre.

The first homes released for sale include a choice of two, three and four-bedroom houses, with prices starting from £494,950 for a two-bedroom semi-detached house.

The first reservations were taken over the weekend and people will move into their homes at Springstead Village from early 2024.

The development is now open daily. To find out more, visit https://www.bellway.co.uk/new-homes/essex/springstead-village or call the sales team on 01223 081346.
