Award-winning Midlands developer EDG Property has added another significant asset to its expanding portfolio with the acquisition of Aspects Leisure Park in Bedford.
The prominent leisure destination, currently occupied by McDonald’s, Fitness First and Club 2000 Bingo, includes several vacant units ranging from 3,000 sq ft to 37,000 sq ft. EDG has appointed Kirkby Diamond and FHP Property Consultants to jointly market the available space to prospective occupiers.
While a detailed redevelopment strategy is yet to be unveiled, the developer has already assembled a design team and initiated positive early-stage discussions with Bedford Borough Council.
Neil Edginton, Director of EDG Property, commented:
“We are really excited to add Aspects Leisure Park to our ever-growing portfolio, and we’re already working closely with Bedford Borough Council, architects, and agents to reinstate the site as a vital asset for the town.
Like many urban centres, Bedford is undergoing a period of transition. We view this as a fantastic opportunity to inject fresh ideas and investment into a location that holds great significance for local residents.
The site’s position opposite the Athletics Stadium, close to Bedford Marina and an established residential area, offers exceptional potential. We look forward to collaborating with local partners to create a scheme that delivers lasting value for the community.”
The acquisition comes at a time of heightened attention on Bedford’s development prospects, following the announcement that Universal Studios plans to build its first-ever UK-based theme park in the town — a move widely expected to stimulate substantial local investment and tourism.
Tom Wootton, Mayor of Bedford Borough Council, welcomed the news, adding:
“People have heard me say that ‘the best is yet to come’ for Bedford Borough, and attracting investment from award-winning developers such as EDG Property is clear evidence that our vision is becoming a reality.
With major players now taking a serious look at Bedford — alongside the arrival of Universal Studios — this feels like a game-changing moment for the town. We look forward to seeing EDG’s plans for Aspects Leisure Park evolve in the coming months.”
