Businesses snap up commercial space at Greenwich development

Greenwich development : More than two thirds of the commercial floor space being provided by a new housing development in Greenwich has been snapped up by businesses.

Bellway London is delivering 34,515 square feet of business space at The River Gardens, a development of 278 apartmentsoff Banning Street, overlooking the River Thames.

Agreements have already been reached on the sale of several units, amounting to a combined 22,420 square feet of floor space.

Businesses set to open at The River Gardens include a dentist, two nurseries, a catering company, a chartered surveyor, and a music technology company.

They will join The River Gardens Café, which has been operating from the site since 2019.

Tom Sherriff, Managing Director for Bellway London, said: “Greenwich is an extremely attractive place for businesses to locate their premises, for many of the same reasons which make it one of the capital’s most desirable areas for homebuyers. One of London’s greenest boroughs, Greenwich has a proud tradition of independent shops and businesses, world-renowned visitor attractions which draw in the tourist crowds, and excellent transport connections to other parts of the capital.

“The 34,515 square feet of commercial space at The River Gardens will provide an opportunity for start-ups seeking their first base, expanding companies in need of larger or more modern premises, or retailers looking for a more prominent or prestigious location on the banks of the Thames.

“The demand we have already seen for units from a diverse range of companies indicates that, despite the challenges of the past year, business confidence in Greenwich remains extremely high. This is encouraging not only for local businesses, but also Greenwich residents who will benefit from an even more vibrant shopping, leisure and dining scene.”
