Buckingham Group is to start work on the first phase of a £120 million business park at the former Rolls-Royce East Works site in Filton.

The 580,000 sq ft of industrial space will be the biggest speculative industrial development in Bristol for 20 years.

Site preparation has now finished at the site known as Horizon 38. Buckingham is now mobilising on site to deliver the first building phase of the 65-acre site.

Joint venture partners and commercial property developers and investors, St Francis Group and iSec, said the first phase of  industrial and distribution units will be ready and available to be occupied as early as next July.

They form part of a new 1m sq ft mixed use development that will offer opportunities for industrial, warehousing, trade, office, hotel and car showroom development.

Development Director at St Francis Group, Gareth Williams, commented: “This is an exciting phase of development. With the entire site now cleared and levelled you can clearly see the scale of development proposed at Horizon 38.

“It is the first major employment scheme to come out of the ground in north Bristol for 20 years.”

Meanwhile, Buckingham Group is taking legal action to get paid almost £3 million it is owed for work on Northampton Town Football Club’s East Stand project at Sixfields Stadium.

The company said it has been forced to walk off the project, twice leaving the stand unfinished due to the ongoing payment row.

Buckingham Group first stopped work in late 2014 having failed to be paid in full by the club’s original main contractor 1st Land.

In March last year, a new agreement was reached with Northampton Town chairman David Cardoza to resume work on the East Stand under a new developer, County Developments (Northampton).

Work started last April after further agreements regarding the payment of the outstanding money.
