GRAHAM Construction Complete Halifax Piece Hall

GRAHAM Construction has completed their work to transform the 18th century Piece Hall in Halifax. The work that has been carried out has been valued at around £22 million. The work to rejuvenate the Grade I listed building and create a new cultural and visitor destination has been taking place since November 2014.

The work on the Piece Hall has been officially completed and was officially open to the public in the 1st of August. This opening was planned in order to coincide with Yorkshire Day. Originally the building was constructed in order to be a cloth trading hall, now the Hall features a range of independent shops, boutique offices, bars and restaurants as well as a museum, two art galleries and a central square that has been designed to host a wide collection of cultural, music and arts events. The Piece Hall offers something for everyone that is visiting Halifax.

In the courtyard of the newly renovated Halifax visitor destination is a four-level cascading water feature as well as bespoke landscape furniture and consistent pavement lighting for visitors to enjoy the space into the evening. This project has allowed GRAHAM Construction to transform an iconic and historic building into a 21st Century visitor destination through the careful, thorough work put in by the construction company. The company were aware of the difficulties ahead when they were first involved with the transformation. The result however, has been a facility for the Halifax community that will be enjoyed for years to come.

The Piece Hall transformation project has been funded in part by the Heritage Lottery Fund, who gave a grant of £7 million. The rest of the funding has come from Calderdale Council. Now complete, The Piece Hall will operate as an independent charity, run by The Piece Hall Trust.
