Auction update: The historic Halesowen warehouse offered with a £20,000+ guide price, plus fees, at Bond Wolfe’s 23 October 2025 auction is now listed by the auctioneer as sold for £100,000. The original guide price was not the final sale price.
Historic Halesowen Warehouse and Its Industrial Heritage
The two-storey brick-built property, situated on the corner of Laurel Lane and Powell Street, was offered as an opportunity to acquire a piece of Halesowen’s industrial heritage.
Known locally as the “Nail Warehouse”, it was once associated with the town’s nail-making trade — a key cottage industry dating back to the 1600s. The site is believed to be the last surviving example of its kind and is recorded on Dudley’s Historic Environment Register.
First shown on the 1885 Ordnance Survey map and later rebuilt in the early 1900s, the warehouse operated as the base for Halesowen Clothing Distributors until its closure more than a decade before the auction.
Warehouse Layout and Redevelopment Potential
The building extends to approximately 1,658 sq ft, offering a ground-floor workshop, staff facilities and WC, alongside first-floor storage space characterised by exposed timber beams.
The auction listing described the vacant freehold property as potentially suitable for alternative uses or redevelopment, subject to the necessary planning consents. Its locally listed status is also an important consideration when assessing proposals for the building.
At the time of marketing, James Rossiter, senior auction valuer at Bond Wolfe, explained the scope of the site’s potential:
“This locally listed property, set back behind a small foregarden, is considered suitable for a broad range of alternative uses or redevelopment, subject to planning permission. Options could include a children’s nursery, restaurant, retail space, or even residential conversion.”
These were suggested possibilities rather than confirmation that any particular use had planning approval.

Halesowen Warehouse Auction Result
The property was marketed among 177 lots for Bond Wolfe’s livestreamed auction on Thursday 23 October 2025, starting at 8.30am. Remote bidding was offered by proxy, telephone or internet.
Although the original guide price was £20,000+, Bond Wolfe’s property listing now records a £100,000 sale price.
The result updates the original auction announcement. It does not establish that redevelopment has started or that a change of use has been approved.
