Scarborough Group International Secures Planning Permission for £30m Newport Office Scheme

Development firm Scarborough Group International has gained planning permission from Newport City Council for its new £30 million Newport office scheme.

The second phase of the development of Newport’s Station Quarter received the approval this week and it will feature a 45,000 sq ft office building across five levels that will be called ‘Interface.’

There will also be a ground floor retail centre facing a newly constructed public plaza as well as complementary leisure facilities.

The scheme will be situated opposite the Newport Train Station and will add to the Station Quarter development success of two years ago which saw an office built.

Scarborough Group Associate Director, Kate Howe, said that phase two of the development shows that the firm remains committed to further developments in Newport, which the group believes is a dynamic city with growing prominence as a great place to work, shop and live.

Ms Howe added: “We are working with the local and national government to attract major occupiers to the site and to show our support for the long term vision of Newport.

“By providing both local and national companies with Grade A office space, we will continue to attract investment to one of the UK’s most vibrant and progressive cities.”

Earlier in the year it was announced that the new Station Quarter office space could be home to Newport’s National Software Academy.

It was also revealed that the John Wallace Linton pub, the most popular Wetherspoon’s pub in Newport, will stay in its current place but will have a new fascia to ensure it fits in with the rest of the new development.

Prior to receiving planning permission, Scarborough Development Group said: “The building has been designed to be suitable for a range of office, educational and commercial uses.

“Discussions are currently on-going with a number of possible end occupiers for some or all of the space available.”
