MC Construction Start Work on Lancaster Castle

MC Construction has been appointed to carry out work on Lancaster Castle. The work being carried out is a part of a £3.9 million restoration scheme which is taking place at the castle. The Salford based, MC Construction has been appointed by the Duchy of Lancaster to carry out work as the main contractor on the project.

Lancaster House will be undergoing an extensive scheme of repair and conservation work in order to breath a new life into the slowly deteriorating Castle. MC Construction has worked on the castle before at an earlier phase, by completing a range of repairs and remedial works to the roofs, windows and stoneworks of the historic building.

The latest scheme of works will see the former prison kitchen yard opened in order to display more of the historic buildings that make up the Castle. These other buildings include the King’s Evidence Tower, Well Tower, Male Felons Tower and the former prison hospital. The restoration work will also lead to the relocation of the Visitor’s centre as well as the creation of a new catering and hospitality suite, ticket office and shop.

Since the Duchy of Lancaster resumed the Castle’s ownership in 2011 there has been significant investments made in order to see the Castle properly restored. The second phase of the works, to reopen old buildings and reveal a number of areas that have, in the past, been closed off will be great news for visitors.

There is also a scheme of works that will see repairs carried out on the external of the castle, including the re-capping of the Castle’s perimeter wall. The whole scheme of works has been designed by architect BDP with Appleyard and Trew enlisted for their assistance as a quantity surveyor. The work on Lancaster Castle is expected to be completed by June 2019.
