Event Was Held Last Week by GMI Construction to mark the Construction Company’s Start

An event was held last week by GMI Construction in order to mark the construction company’s start on the Thorpe Park Leeds development. The Building and Construction Services company held the special event as a celebration of their start on the 300,000 sq ft retail and leisure park. Thorpe Park is already a well established business park spread out over 800,00 sq.ft, with 60 different occupiers. The extension work will significantly add to the retail and leisure space on the site.

Thorpe Park Leeds is a part of a phase two development which will deliver a total of 1.6 million sq. ft of space for retail and leisure businesses to operate from in Leeds. Alongside the event that was held by GMI Construction was the news that ODEON will become a leisure anchor for Thorpe Park Leeds and that Boots will also be joining the ever expanding list of retail names. The announcement regarding ODEON and Boots was made by the joint venture partners Scarborough International Properties and Legal & General Capital.

Other big names that have been released as looking to open stores at the new retail and leisure park are Next, TK MAXX, the Outfit and M&S Simply Food. These companies have announced that they will be looking to open up in some of the major stores on the site. As part of the development of the park, GMI have announced that they have tripled their workforce on the site. The phase that GMI has just started working on will hopefully be complete next year.

On the site while the development of the retail and leisure space is taking place is a platform that has been specifically installed on the site alongside a collection of visitor plaques that ark out the location of the new railway station planned for the site, the East Leeds linking road that will also be constructed as part of the development and markers for the location of several of the occupiers.
