This season’s viral trend has nothing to do with coffee — instead, Americans are busy wrapping their front door handles in shiny tin foil.
The internet-driven craze claims that a layer of foil could keep households safe from intruders. Some suggest the sound of crinkling metal might startle a burglar, or at the very least make them pause and question the eccentric display.
Colin Greenslade, founder of Colin’s Sash Windows, said: “It’s entertaining, but unless your burglar is a magpie, tin foil won’t protect your home. If you really want peace of mind, try something more effective — like secure sash windows or doors tested to PAS24 standards.”
While the fashion leaves homes looking more like bargain art exhibits than fortresses, the company stresses that real protection and efficiency require properly designed fittings, not kitchen leftovers.
Colin added: “Before you raid the clingfilm cupboard, remember: the only thing tin foil is guaranteed to protect is your Sunday roast.”
