Heritage Craft Meets Modern Sleep in New British Wool Mattress Range

As homeowners increasingly seek natural, enduring interiors, British bedmaker Wrought Iron and Brass Bed Company has introduced a new mattress range inspired by time-honoured methods and careful material choices.

The Signature British Wool Mattress Collection brings together hand-prepared British wool and calico pocket springs, offering a considered alternative to factory-made mattresses dominated by synthetic components.

Rather than prioritising showroom softness, the collection is designed with longevity in mind. The comfort layers are built from hand-teased wool, allowing the fibres to stay open and flexible. This structure supports natural temperature regulation and delivers comfort without excessive weight. Wool’s natural moisture-balancing properties also help create a cleaner, more stable sleep environment across all seasons.

Beneath the wool sits a system of British-made calico pocket springs. Unlike modern synthetic casings, these springs are wrapped in natural cotton. Each spring responds individually, encouraging airflow while reducing motion transfer. This traditional construction is also known to mature well over time, complementing natural fillings more effectively.

The Signature Collection is available in three variations, differentiated by overall support rather than standard firmness labels. Customers are guided to select spring tension based on personal comfort preferences, reflecting the belief that true comfort cannot be reduced to rigid categories.

    Amanda Oldfield says:
“We’ve never believed that comfort can be reduced to a single word. Two people can lie on the same mattress and experience it completely differently. Our role is to build something honest and adaptable, using materials that work with the body rather than against it.”

Every mattress is made entirely in Britain under one roof and carries Made in Britain certification. Wool is sourced directly from British farms and remains fully traceable throughout production. Each piece is signed by its lead maker and supported by a 20-year guarantee, underscoring the company’s focus on lasting quality.

Designed to work in harmony with a pocket-sprung base, the collection reflects a holistic view of sleep. By aligning materials, construction, and support, the range delivers a calm, natural sleeping experience for those seeking a more thoughtful choice in today’s mattress market.
