Partnership Formed Between the University of Sheffield and Sheffield City Council

A partnership has been formed between the University of Sheffield and Sheffield City Council in order to improve the appearance and safety of the University’s City Centre Campus. The partnership will lead to the construction of a pedestrian guardrail that will be supplied by Alpha Rail.

The project to improve the city centre facilities on offer from Sheffield University in order to encourage more people in Sheffield to make the most of the cafes on offer as well as visiting Weston Park or enjoy one of the newly designed safer green spaces on the campus that will be dotted around as part of the development.

The development taking place will also add more walkways and cycle routes as well as improved pedestrian crossings near Upper Hanover Street and Western Bank in order to give sfer access to the campus from this direction. The project is taking place in order to promote Sheffield and turn the City into a greener and safer place for those that live, work and visit the area. There will also be the introduction of architectural artwork and the introduction of more trees and shrubs to help to redevelop the green space.

Funding for this redevelopment project has been provided by both the University and the Sheffield City Region Investment Fund. The local government provided £2.9 million of investment towards the projects, with the rest being funded by the University of Sheffield.

Alpha Rail was contracted to the project by North Midland Construction in order to manufacture and provide a pedestrian guardrail. This guardrail has been installed along the new walkways and cycle paths as well as along the existing paths that are located on and around the campus. This added feature will improve the safety of pedestrians on the campus and will work to compliment the pedestrianisation of locations on the University campus.
