Origin Housing has Been Given Planning Consent

Origin Housing has been given planning consent which will lead to the construction of a mixed-used development. This new project will be located in the London Borough of Harrow, on Palmerston Road, Wealdstone. This project has been the first to be given planning permission after a ‘Call In’ by the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

The new scheme will see development take place on the edge of Wealdstone Town Centre. The project will form a part of the Heart of Harrow Housing Zone and is expected to include 186 homes as well as floor spaces for both commercial and community use. The development has been designed by Moss Architects and the application that was submitted for panning permission included 5 buildings that range from 1 to 17 storeys plus the provisions set out for the public realm.

It is reassuring that this development had the support of the Mayor of London, as the investment will contribute greatly to the housing stock available in London. This is vital as it has previously been announced that housing demand around the country is very high. The scheme will also contribute to the regeneration of Wealdstone, the commercial space could also lead to a boost in job numbers.

This scheme is one of two developments that were ‘Called In’ by the Mayor of London in January 2017. The two developments were previously rejected by local authorities. The other development that was ‘Called In’ was the Hale Warf in Tottenham. These two projects were the first to be ‘called in’ by the Mayor since his election in May 2016.
