It has been argued by GLA Conservatives that the Labour mayor of London has slashed habitations at Old Oak Common by as much as 40 per cent, whilst claiming to improve the amounts of spending on housing. It has been claimed that 6.9 million pounds have been devoted towards the project to build numerous new habitations in the disused West London area and site, as well as an added potential two million pounds to help with the installation of these new homes.
This is undoubtedly a much better initiative by Mister Sadiq Khan than anything that the previous mayor of London (Conservative Boris Johnson) had invested into the project, which under his leadership was a mere 5.5 million pounds. On the other hand, the GLA Conservatives have intimated that there are apparently ways for Mister Khan to access even more vital funds for the completion of the project, which would amount to an extra 6 million pounds to help the project be completed as soon as possible over the next 3 years. It would therefore seem that Mister Khan is not devoting all of the money that could potentially be led towards the initiative and suggests that he is 4.5 million pounds shy of the potential 11.4 million pounds that he could have had put aside for the duration of the Old Oak Common development.
Indeed, many in the housing sector are voicing concerns that this decision will not only slow the project down but will also have an extremely negative impact on the 13,000 properties in the area that are already set to be built in the area. This is clearly a grave concern for the housing committee based in London and Mister Andrew Boff of the London Assembly has even suggested that this shows that Mister Khan is not quite as eager as he seems to improve the lives of thousands of London by committing to housing initiatives as he may initially have seemed to be.
