New Charles Rennie Mackintosh Collection to Celebrate 150th Birthday

2018 will see the 150th anniversary of the birth of Glasgow-born Charles Rennie Mackintosh, considered to be one of the most celebrated architects and designers to work in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. In order to celebrate this landmark anniversary, Craft Design House is commissioning a range of new work that is expected to reflect and celebrate the unique and innovative style of the well-known architect.

Craft Design House has commissioned this work, and will be working in collaboration with other designer maker partners based in Scotland in order to fulfill the project and showcase Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s work. Mackintosh was born in 1868 and trained at the Glasgow School of Art. Charles Rennie Mackintosh was a founder of the core of the Glasgow Style Movement with his wife Margaret MacDonald, sister Frances and brother-in-law Herbert McNair. The legacy of the movement is incorporated into the very fabric of modern-day Glasgow, its buildings, interiors and artworks are all a testament to the talent and vision of this group across a number of different disciplines.

The Founder and CEO of Craft House Design, Gillian Scott says that while in Glasgow, the unique and innovative style of Mackintosh can be seen in the numerous different buildings that he designed in the city. Known for his distinctive and often symbolic colour use and rose motifs, the modern and minimalist furniture that feature clean lines and create striking shadows in the right light can be seen in museums and private homes, street corners and schools, an integral part of the Glasgow style.
