Abbey Wood Station Reaches Milestone

Abbey Wood Station’s new ticket hall and concourse has been opened as a further developmental milestone as a part of the Railway Upgrade Plan. The new station will also be a part of the Crossrail project and will cut journeys to a range of central London locations in half with the development of the Elizabeth line.

The new station and the reduced travel times that are being offered as a part of the Crossrail project is already having a positive effect on the local area, working to attract new businesses and more investment into the area. In the next stage of the development, the temporary station initially created in 2014 to keep passengers on the move will be removed, and the car park will be reinstated.

The London Borough of Bexley will also be continuing to work on the front of the new station building, as a continuation of their urban realm improvement projects. When the station is fully complete, the passengers will be able to enjoy the facilities that the new station has to offer. Abbey Wood has a new bright and spacious ticket hall with ticket machines and customer information office. On either side of the ground floor there will be improved access to the transformed civic spaces. The new station also has a granite-paved pedestrian concourse will connect the station with a flyover which provides significantly better links to the local bus services in operation nearby.

The developers for this Abbey Wood project have thanked their passengers and local residents while the work has been carried out and their passengers will welcome the changes that have been made to the station, alongside the other improvements that are being made in the local area. Abbey Wood is a further milestone for the Crossrail project, while offering a range of benefits to the local community.
