Vital Energi Appointed to Create Temporary Energy Centre for ABP

For the first phase of the business district to be created at London’s Royal Albert Docks, Vital Energi has been appointed to a design and build contract with Multiplex to create a temporary energy centre. The £7.9 million contract is a part of a major project that will create a completely new business district in London.

 

The finished development at the Royal Albert Dock, when completed will be a gateway for companies in Asia looking to establish a headquarters in Europe. The development will be a new financial and business district in the capital. The project will also have a range of retail and leisure facilities for companies to operate across different time zones.

 

This development is being carried out by the Chinese development company ABP. The company has a reputation for working on large scale developments and regeneration projects. Vital Energi has been working as lead design consultants for ABP over the course of the last two years. Vital has also been announced as ABP’s preferred partner to carry out the building, operation and maintenance of the temporary energy centre. The first phase of the £1.7 billion project is being carried out by ABP is expected to be complete in the first half of 2019. The temporary energy centre will deliver district heating and cooling networks that will be constructed in order to serve the first phase of the 4.7 million sq. ft. mixed-use development.

The new energy centre that is being created by Vital will consist of 5MW gas boilers, a 100㎥ insulated thermal store, 1.2 MW air cooled chillers and a BMS control system. It is thought that this energy centre will supply energy to each of the buildings at the development site that are connected to phase 1 of the project, which is equivalent to 50,000㎡ of commercial space through a 2.6km district heating and cooling network
