First residents move in to second phase of Goodsyard development in Bishop’s Stortford

The first residents have moved into their new homes at Southside Locks – the second phase of Bellway’s Goodsyard development in Bishop’s Stortford.

Bellway is building 174 new one, two and three-bedroom apartments across five buildings at Southside Locks, which forms part of the regeneration of the former railway freight area in the town.

The first phase of the scheme – 149 apartments at The Exchange – was completed by Bellway last year.

The Goodsyard project is a sustainable development featuring communal gardens and new public open spaces which include a riverside walk.

Matthew Saw, Sales Manager at Bellway North London, said: “We’ve now handed the keys to the first residents at Southside Locks, joining those residents who have already settled into their homes at The Exchange.

“Construction is progressing well on this second phase of Goodsyard, where we are delivering a range of high-quality, sustainable new homes, with the energy-efficient and low-carbon technologies employed set to deliver a reduction in carbon emissions of more than 28 per cent. These technologies include air source heat pumps which provide water to each unit, and solar panels.”

“The demand for homes here has not let up since we sold all of the apartments in the first phase at The Exchange. We recently opened a new 2-bedroom show apartment to accommodate the ongoing demand from potential buyers.

“People appreciate the quality of these homes – which have been built by a National House Building Council Pride in the Job award-winning site team – and our customer service, which has led to Bellway being awarded a five-star rating with the Home Builders Federation for the seventh year running.

“And the location is clearly a huge draw, right opposite the train station for services into London Liverpool Street, Cambridge and Stansted Airport, and just a short walk from the town centre.”

One couple loving the convenience of life at Goodsyard are London commuters John and Michelle, who are first-time buyers formerly renting in Wanstead, East London.

John said: “Being located so close to the train station makes our lives so much easier. It takes around 20 minutes to get to Tottenham Hale and is only an hour door-to-door for work in Brixton, South London, which is surprisingly the same commute time as when living in Wanstead. If I ran, it would probably only take me a minute to get to the station from our front door!

“Another perk of Goodsyard is it has easy access to both the M11 and M25 which makes commuting across the country to visit different clients easy to do.”

The two Bellway developments at The Exchange and Southside Locks are part of a £200m regeneration project, led by Solum, which is creating a mixed-use development of around 500 homes, a hotel, care home, and retail and office space.

A new transport interchange, station square, multi-storey car park and a bus route connecting Station Road and Dane Street with London Road, are also being delivered.

Southside Locks will comprise 128 homes for private sale and 46 affordable properties available for local people through low cost-rent and shared ownership. A new two-bedroom show apartment has recently been opened.

There’s currently a choice of one and two-bedroom apartments available to reserve, with prices starting from £265,000 and £350,000 respectively.
