Barnack new homes development helps Vistry Group onto shortlist for national Brick Awards

The distinctive brickwork at a new housing development in Barnack has helped put Vistry Group in the running for a national industry award.

The company, which comprises Linden Homes, Bovis Homes and Vistry Partnerships, has been shortlisted in the Housebuilder category of the Brick Awards 2021, which take place later this year.

Among the three projects which Vistry Group submitted as part of its successful bid to make the three-strong shortlist was Kingsley Place, a development built by Linden Homes off Uffington Road.

Comprising 80 homes, the now completed development was constructed using a sand-effect stone-style brick, supplied by Ibstock Brick and known as Ibstock Leicester Multi Yellow.

Organised by the Brick Development Association, the annual awards celebrate the best examples of clay brick used in the built environment. Entrants in the Housebuilder category must provide evidence of sound architecture and craftsmanship, as well as demonstrating an outstanding contribution to the industry through apprenticeships, training, quality assurance, sustainability and commitment to health and safety.

Rob Spittles, construction director of Vistry East Midlands, said: “Kingsley Place is an extremely distinctive development and one we are immensely proud of. Ibstock Brick is renowned across the world for the quality of its products and the sand-effect stone-style bricks which we have used at Kingsley Place have created a soft, rustic appearance which blends in perfectly with the development’s surroundings.

“The fact that Kingsley Place was included in Vistry Group’s successful nomination for this prestigious award is a reflection of the attractive nature of the development and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the site manager and his team.”

Andrew Arthur, of Ibstock Brick, said: “The nomination is brilliant news for both our companies. To be recognised in this way at such a prestigious national awards event is a real honour.

“We are proud to supply Vistry East Midlands and enjoyed working closely with them on this development. Our sand-effect stone-style brick was the perfect choice for Kingsley Place and a fine example of how different varieties of brickwork can be used to create new housing developments with aesthetic appeal and character.”

Kingsley Place comprises a mix of one to five-bedroom homes, with 57 sold on the open market and 23 provided as affordable housing for rent or shared ownership. The development also includes a children’s play area and the creation of a new habitat similar to the nearby Barnack Hills and Holes national nature reserve.

As part of the planning agreement for the development, Linden Homes has invested £780,716 into local services and infrastructure, including £27,750 towards the management of the Hills and Holes special area of conservation.

The other two developments put forward to support Vistry Group’s nomination for the award were Bovis Homes’ Blackmore Meadows in Dorset and Linden Homes’ Castle Gate in North Yorkshire.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on Wednesday 10November.
