Brand new 50m student development set for approval in Swansea.

Student flats are a big trajectory within property development; this major project is set to bring more students to the city of Swansea with the student flats agreed to be built in an ideal location, adjacent Swansea train station in the city centre.

If building permission is accepted, the monumental tower, known as icon 21, will be the second tallest building in Swansea. The erection of the new student tower will bring vibrancy and generate future business and potential investments.

RDE Silex are the development company behind the scheme, the proposal includes approximately 700 student rooms, restaurant, café, recreational gym; a flood lit outdoor pitch and multiple shops alongside a student’s union bar with direct access to the beach making it the ultimate choice for students to live.

Spokesperson from Swansea University Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Iwan Davies, said: “Swansea University is now delivering its campus development programme.”

“At the heart of this initiative is enhancing the student experience. Next year the university will operate from two campuses – the wonderful existing campus as Singleton Park and a new campus at the Bay.”

The planning application, which has the support of the design commission of Wales, could be submitted as early as next month. The developer has agreed to fine-tune sections of the building and make improvements before the final version is accepted to be built. Additional funding may also be required to improve pavement and public space areas surrounding the building.

The new development will contain an aesthetically pleasing sloping roof, which will be sited in Mariner Street. As well as, the student blocks ground floor consisting of various bars and a nightclub, ensuring that there is no space for cars encouraging students to walk or cycle.
