This summer, L’Atelier Barcelona brings its award-winning pastries to the iconic rooftop of Grand Hotel Central, Barcelona, with Aegean Summer – a seasonal pop-up running from 27 June to 30 August. Set on the rooftop La Terraza del Central, this collaboration unites two of the city’s most celebrated names in a sun-drenched fusion of haute pâtisserie and cocktails.
L’Atelier Barcelona presents four creations—three beloved classics, including the iconic edible Lemon and Cactus, plus one made just for this event—each expertly paired with a cocktail by La Terraza del Central’s bar manager, Matteo Conte.”
The setting, offering some of the city’s most cinematic views, is the perfect backdrop to enjoy the iconic desserts from L’Atelier, the celebrated pâtisserie founded by chefs Eric Ortuño and Ximena Pastor, recognised figures in contemporary haute pâtisserie. Their career has been honoured with awards such as Best Artisan Tea Pastry in Spain and Best Chocolate Panettone in Spain.
The flavours, such as lemon, olive and nuts, are designed to connect Greece and Catalonia:
- Lemon, with lemon mousse and cream, timut pepper, almond crumble, lemon marmalade, and white chocolate coating, is paired with the Flower Power cocktail, made with tequila, citrus, and lavender.
- The iconic Cactus — cocoa sponge cake with cactus flower, lime, and toasted white chocolate — finds its match in the exotic Gothic Breeze, with rum, pineapple, and almond.
- Flor de Pasión, a crunchy hazelnut base with dark chocolate infused with passion fruit, is harmonised with the refreshing Golden Hour, a mix of vodka, orange liqueur, and apple.
- And as an exclusive debut, Oliva, a cocoa tartlet with chocolate ganache and olive oil, is paired with the elegant Recioto di Soave Broia, a sweet Italian wine recommended by sommelier Amador Marín, with notes of acacia honey, apricot, and dried fruits.
With views of the Gothic Quarter and the Barcelona skyline, La Terraza del Central is an urban oasis ideal for enjoying the good weather: infinity pool, Balinese beds, Mediterranean cuisine, sunsets, live DJ sessions and now, the signature sweets of L’Atelier Barcelona.
L’Atelier Barcelona is the brainchild of Ximena Pastor and Eric Ortuño, two of Spain’s best-known pastry chefs. Grand Hotel Central reopened its doors in 2024 following a meticulous refurbishment which saw its 147 rooms and suites, two restaurants and bars, wellness suite, and rooftop pool and terrace, completely reimagined.
The Aegean Summer pop-up will be open daily from 27 June to 30 August, from 12:00 to 22:00. Bookings can be made via the Grand Hotel Central website.
