Cardiff University is in the process of investing £600 million into the future of the university. This investment is being split into a number of different areas: £300 million is being invested in a new Innovation Campus, £260 million will be used to boost student experience and £40 million will be invested in to initiative that will boost growth throughout the economy and industry.

As part of this forward looking investment is a £23 million proposal for a new School of Mathematics and School of Computer Science & Informatics. The location for this new building has not yet been decided on, but it is thought that combining the two schools in one building will promote more innovative teach and interdisciplinary research as well as allowing for more innovative study programmes to be created.

Involved in the project is this year’s National Eisteddfod architecture gold medal winners and an internationally renowned practice. Stride Treglown Architects works well in collaborations and it is fitting that a partnership designs the building that will go on to house to University departments when completed. Adjaye Architects was first founded by Sir David Adjaye OBE who has this year been named as the most influential architect in the world by Time magazine and featured in their 100 most influential people this year. Also working on the project, leading the design and construction of the new building will be Arcadis, design and consultant firm has worked in the UK with a number of different organisation across a variety of different sectors.

Stride Treglown has experience designing buildings for education, as they designed the innovative education buildings of Bristol Business School at UWE Bristol as well as the National Composites Centre. Adjaye Associates has been involved in a number of different high profile projects around the world, including the Moscow School of Management and the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington DC.
