Bellway has submitted detailed plans to build 370 homes on a newly acquired parcel of land in Bromsgrove as part of a new development. The housebuilder is seeking permission from Bromsgrove District Council to deliver the homes on land off Whitford Road at the western edge of the town.

Outline planning consent is already in place for up to 490 homes to be delivered on the 42-acre site, having been granted in February last year. The proposed 370-home development will feature a mix of one to five-bedroom properties, including 148 affordable homes for local people through rent or shared ownership.

A large area of public open space accounting for 10 acres of the site, including a children’s play area will also be created at the western edge of the development. If Bellway’s plans are approved, construction work could start on the site in the autumn with the first homes completed early next year.

Dan Forrester, Land Director for Bellway South Midlands, said: “Our plans will unlock the potential of this undeveloped land to deliver a wide range of much-needed new homes for Bromsgrove and the surrounding area. There will be a mix of property types to meet different needs, from one-bedroom homes available through rent or shared ownership to five-bedroom detached family houses.

“The site is allocated for new housing in the 2017 Bromsgrove District Plan and represents a sustainable location just over a mile from the town centre. The development will also be well-served by transport links, with easy access to both Junctions 4 and 5 of the M5 as well as the town’s railway station.

“The development has been designed to provide a seamless extension to Bromsgrove, with large areas of green space included to reflect the site’s location on the edge of open countryside. We will also be providing a significant investment in local services and infrastructure improvements under the terms of the planning agreement for the site.

“Subject to planning approval, we look forward to starting work on site later this year and creating a high-quality residential neighbourhood for the town.”

Bellway will provide funding of more than £4 million for the local community as part of the planning agreement for the site. Contributions will include £725,753 for high school education, £648,418 for first school education, and £518,918 for sustainable infrastructure.
