A £120 million ambitious plan to deliver 1000 new council homes available to rent in West Dunbartonshire has been revealed by West Dunbartonshire Council, which is being referred to as the More Home Better Homes strategy and will span across a period of five years.

The previous new build target from the council was half as big as this new strategy, and the hope is that by 2021 the project will be fully completed should everything go to plan, as West Dunbartonshire Council begin their redevelopment of the local area.

“Providing good-quality, affordable homes is a key priority for this council” commented Councillor David McBride, the convenor of the housing and communities’ committee. “The Strategic Housing Investment Plan details the projects we and our housing association partners are delivering and those which we are planning to develop.

“We have already invested significantly in our housing stock and delivered a number of new homes for our residents as a result. This ambitious new plan reflects the demand in our communities and we are rising to that by delivering much needed new housing and also creating new jobs in the construction industry.”

After consulting with local and national housing associations and the Scottish Government, the council were able to create this plan which displays priority affordable housing projects in the local area that are either planned for the future or are now underway, as well as identifying other key areas for development.

The areas for development include 200 new affordable homes at Queens Quay in Clydebank, 40 new council homes for rent at Second Avenue and over 100 new council design homes at the old St Andrew’s School site, as well as 400 new homes across West Dunbartonshire thanks to the council’s housing partnership with Wheatley Group, so these are exciting times for the locals.
