Cunninghame Housing Association has just completed the Sweeney Court development, which saw the introduction of 70 new houses and flats for rent in Ardrossan, Scotland. The cost for the project was over £7.7 million, with £4.5 million awarded in grant from the Scottish Government.

The main contractor for the scheme was Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd, while the design team consisted of MAST Architects, TCS Construction Consultants, and Scott Bennett Associates.
“I am delighted to see the completion of the Sweeney Court development, which will bring great benefits to the area. It will not only provide a mix of high quality, affordable homes, including those for social rent and also wheelchair users, but also breathe new life into the community,” said Kevin Stewart, Housing Minister, who also carried out the official sod cutting ceremony.

The project was supported by the government’s Affordable Housing Supply Programme, committed to delivering at least 50,000 affordable homes over the existing Parliament. At least 35,000 of them will be for social rent, backed by a £3 billion investment. “As the Sweeney Court development shows, working together with housing associations and others, I know that target can be achieved,” added Kevin.

“I am delighted to see the completion of Sweeney Court development and the creation of a further 70 new affordable homes, some of which have been specifically designed to accommodate wheelchair users. Working together with partners such as Cunninghame Housing Association, we are continuing to increase the work on our council housing building programme delivering new homes for the people of North Ayrshire,” commented the Councillor Joe Cullinane, leader of North Ayrshire Council.

The project was named after Frank Sweeney, the chief executive of Cunninghame Housing Association, and it is part of the three site developments that provided 19 Apprenticeships by Ashleigh (Scotland) Ltd and its sub-contractors, all part of the Association’s community benefits contract requirements.
