Homeowners looking to spruce up their bedrooms in the near future can look to the latest emerging stylish, interior design trends from design experts to add value to properties.

Bedroom stylish interior design trends 2021 Unlike the rest of the home where interior design is crafted with visitors in mind, bedrooms are centred around individual tastes, with more intimate, ergonomic design.

A recent study shows that since the start of the pandemic, 55% of individuals had to resort to working from home, with 15% admitting they used their bedroom as an office space1 so it’s vital that bedrooms are a place where homeowners can rest, recuperate and escape the stresses of daily life.

Whilst many individuals have adapted to new ways of living due to the recent pandemic, as restrictions ease and the world begins to open up – this now acts as an opportunity to refresh homes, ensuring bedrooms are a space to unwind.

Interior designer for North Sands Developments, Jules Upton of Oval Interiors, has compiled a list of top bedroom interior design trends 2021, she said: “As an interior designer, I believe it’s so important that people reflect their character through their bedroom interior, as it’s the one place in the world people can truly express themselves alongside their passions through visual aspects. The ability to convey personality through décor helps create individual sanctuaries, where we can escape from reality and be at one with ourselves.”

“Below we have compiled a list of the top five bedroom interior trends we expect to see continue growing during 2021, with tips on how to incorporate them into the bedroom.”

Here is the top five bedroom interior trends to watch:

    1. Natural designs

Focusing on human connection to the outside world, eco-designs integrate elements of nature into our surroundings by incorporating earthy materials, neutral colours and house plants.

Recent statistics show that we now spend over 90% of our time indoors2, and by incorporating natural elements into our bedrooms, it provides us with a sense of freedom, being at one with nature.

In addition to this, rattan furniture searches were up by 809% during lockdown4, with wooden and wicker furniture contributing to a feeling of warmth and cosiness. New wooden flooring has also been estimated to add a value of up to £7,255 to a home – helping to emphasise the contemporary aesthetic of a bedroom1. Colours such as sage greens and opulent olives when paired with white toned walls and wicker materials, are also key to creating a more calming environment.

    1. Light living

An abundance of light in a room can entirely uplift surroundings, creating a breathable, spacious environment. A light, airy space also boosts productivity levels in addition to general well-being, with a recent survey suggesting that 58% of people have struggled with sleep since the start of the pandemic6.

    1. Minimalistic settings

De-cluttering the bedroom can really refocus an environment and help to reduce stress levels. We are seeing a growing trend of ‘less is more’ in 2021, which is helping to generate a calmer, neutralised environment. Straight lines, soft colours and Scandinavian minimalist line art, coupled with natural light creates a refreshing, simple and timeless feel.

    1. Bed frames

Bed frames create a dramatic statement and together with a comfortable mattress they can ensure the best night’s sleep. The bed frame and headboard are typically the focal point of any bedroom; and it’s important you pick one that will go with your current décor and any potential changes moving forward. The varying styles of bed frames on the market allow individuals to inject components of their character into a bedroom space, from customisable modular frames to under bed storage and canopy frames, from which curtains and lights can be draped – the options are endless5.

    1. Charismatic colour

Whilst neutral tones remain popular with homeowners, 2021 has seen striking shades such as navy making a splash in the bedroom. Statement walls with a pop of colour really split up the space and provide a sophisticated appeal to any bedroom. ‘Brave ground’ was voted Dulux’s colour of the year for 2021 – a shade inspired by the simplicity of nature. The tone is neutral but also provides a chic wash of colour for both a modern and timeless look.
