ForHousing has completed a 48-home net zero-carbon development on the former site of the Salford City Roosters clubhouse, at Hallsworth Road, Eccles.

The £9 million development comprises 30 apartments,14 two and three-bedroom houses, and four bungalows that are accessible for wheelchair users and are all available for social rent.

The new homes were built by housing developer Bridgestone Construction, and ForHousing worked with JDA Architects to specially design and adapt one of the bungalows for a pre-allocated tenant.

The site is the first to be built as part of ForHousing’s net zero-carbon approach to development schemes and will see tenants’ running costs reduced and improved SAP ratings thanks to the use of air source heat pumps for heating and hot water, and individual EV car chargers for each home.

Homes England has provided £3.6 million in external funding to the development and as part of the acquisition of the site, a new changing room for the Salford City Roosters Rugby League Club has been provided; match funded by Salford City Council and the Rugby World Cup.

Nigel Sedman, Executive Director of Homes at ForHousing said:

“We’re thrilled to see the completion of 48 homes at Hallsworth Road. This development marks a significant milestone in our ongoing mission to provide truly affordable social rent homes that are both sustainable and future-proof.

“By collaborating closely with Salford City Council, Salford City Roosters Rugby Club, and the local community, we’ve ensured that these eco-friendly, high-quality homes will make a lasting positive impact on the community.

“We are on the right track to achieving our goal of reducing carbon output in our homes, and we look forward to continuing our work to provide affordable, environmentally responsible homes where tenants feel safe and secure.”
