The plans to create a new Queen Margaret Academy have moved one step closer to becoming a reality with the signing of the official contracts. The Queen Margaret Academy in Ayr have successfully reached a financial close. South Ayrshire Council are now making preparations in order to move on to the site and get to work to create the new facility.
The proposed project is expected to cost £25 million and, when completed, will deliver school places for 800 young people. The facility will hopefully deliver modern classrooms and interactive ICT equipment as well as a large games hall, two gyms, two all-weather pitches and hard games courts. The Queen Margaret Academy will also be the home of new Psychological Services as well as a Supported Learning Centre. The significant investment in the new building will help to transform the way that young people are taught with the creation of a school with more flexible spaces to deliver lessons.
The new Academy will be built on the grounds of an existing school and is expected to be ready to open in October 2019. The building currently on the site is expected to be demolished after the new school opens so that the site can then be fully landscaped. The main contractor for the development has already been revealed as Kier Construction.
The Councillor Peter Henderson, Portfolio Holder for Resources and Performance for South Ayrshire Council has said that the Council is committed to providing young people with the best possible start in life with the help of delivering a first-class education. The Queen Margaret Academy will provide a modern and inclusive community facility that will provide excellent resources and opportunities for the area. It is thought that over the course of the coming weeks hub South West, the delivery partner will be proceeding to the site in order to deliver the state-of-the-art teaching, sporting and community facility that will benefit future generations for years to come.
