Evans and University of York Partnership Deliver Retail and Healthcare Facilities

The partnership between Evans Property Group and the University of York has led to the creation of three award winning student residences and facilities. Now, on top of the creation of around 2,000 beds and £100 million of investment, this partnership has recently secured a series of leasing at the Kimberlow Hill Retail Park which can be found at Kimberlow Rise.

The lettings that have been secured will be developed in order to provide a new Medical Centre, retail parade and convenience store in order to offer the required amenities to meet the demand of the growing campus and the local community. The Kimberlow Hill Retail Park can be found in the suburb of Heslington, to the east of York.

There will be retail opportunities as a part of the latest lettings by the partnership, with a 4,500 sq. ft. Nisa Local convenience store and other retailers such as Greggs and the sandwich shop Subway expected to also on the line up. This retail element is expected to be completed this month, with a view to opening in early 2018. The lettings will also allow for the  creation of a Medical Centre, which will be run by Unity Health. This facility is expected to be ready for opening March 2018. The facilities at the retail park are expected to attract around 75,000 visitors annually.

Around 16,000 students attend the University of York, in addition to the 4,500 staff. The development of the Kimberlow Hill Retail Park forms a part of the University’s plans to provide local residents with retail facilities as well as delivering a brand new Medical Centre. The continuous investment into the University campus has led to the creation of more student accommodation. Due to the increased capacity for students, more amenities were required, such as the provision of supporting health and retail facilities that are near to the 161 acre Heslington East campus. The retail park is expected to attract independent retailers as well as high street brands and will be anchored into the centre or the local community with the opening of the new healthcare facilities.
