The second phase of the Wapping Wharf regeneration project in Bristol will be delivered by UK-based infrastructure company, Balfour Beatty. The £43 million contract was awarded by Wapping Wharf Living, a joint venture between Umberslade and Muse Developments.

“There has been significant interest from the local community in the redevelopment of this historic part of the iconic Floating Harbour,” said Jonathan Winter, Balfour Beatty South of England regional managing director. “We look forward to delivering the next phase of this exciting new quarter in the heart of Bristol where people can live, shop, eat and relax by the city’s waterfront.”

The Wapping Wharf development features more than 200 homes and a retail quarter with independent restaurants, shops and cafes. For the second phase of the project, Homes England has provided £23.4 million in funding to Wapping Wharf Living from its Home Building Fun.

According to the contract’s requirements, Balfour Beatty will provide two residential blocks consisting of 256 new homes, four new retail units, covering an area of 659 m2, a ground level car parking, bicycle storage and landscaping for the new homes. The Grade II listed Gaol Gate and Gaol Wall Structures will be retained and restored and will act as a pedestrian feature entrance for the residential buildings.

“We are delighted to be moving forward with phase two of Wapping Wharf and replicate the funding structures with Homes England and Sovereign Housing that were so successful on phase one,” said Muse Developments residential development director, Duncan Cumberland.

Work on phase two of the project will commence next month and are expected to complete in 2020. More than 250 individuals will be employed during construction.
