    New Project has Been Shortlisted for the World Architecture Festival Awards

    New Project has Been Shortlisted for the World Architecture Festival Awards

    A range of innovative new project have been shortlisted for the World Architecture Festival awards 2017, for floating student accommodation that has been planned in Copenhagen to a automotive museum in Los Angeles and a futuristic pharmacy in Japan.

    The World Architecture Festival will be celebrating its tenth year this year and is known for being the biggest architectural awards programme in the world. The Festival will be celebrating their tenth year in Berlin in November this year and has received more entries than ever before, up 18% to 924 in comparison to 2016. The shortlist that has been revealed today shows a vast array of International projects that includes the architectural practices of 51 different nations and projects that are located in 68 different countries.

    The shortlist contain 434 of the entries into this years competition and are spread from small family homes to schools, stations, museums, large infrastructure and landscape projects. As part of the architects on the shortlist, the UK are the most widely represented, followed quickly by colleagues in the USA, Australia and Turkey. The entries that have been submitted by Asia are up for the third year and there has also been an increase in the residential submissions as part of this years awards. As part of this increase, a new Villa category has been introduced and includes an array of entrie from Brazil, New Zealand and India.

    As part of the awards put on for the World Architecture Festival, smaller architectural firms will be pitted against larger and more well known companies. Some of the firms that are involved in the shortlist include BIG, Neri & Hu, Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Grimshaw, Heatherwick Studio and Nikken Sekkei.

    The shortlisted designs will next be presented to more than 100 International judges. The 2017 Super Jury will then decide on the best of the 18 category winners . This super jury will be led by Robert Ivy, the CEO of the American Institute of Architects and the former Editor of Architectural Record.
