Five home projects you should never cut corners on

Homeowners are being warned cutting corners on big projects like tiling and fitted furniture could leave them out of pocket

Home improvement experts at Online-Bedrooms.co.uk have shared five home projects that people shouldn’t compromise on.

DIY projects can be a great way to save money but there are some home projects which are best left to professionals.

Making mistakes on big jobs like tiling and fitted furniture can cost you more in the long run.

Some projects including painting the entire home also require a lot of time and effort in order to get a decent finish.

Nic Shacklock, from Online-Bedrooms said: “When it comes to home projects there are certainly things you can do yourself to help save money.

“But the reality is that cutting corners on some of those bigger jobs could be more hassle than it’s worth and cost you twice as much money and time in the long run.

“Things such as flooring and tiling should always be left to professionals and the materials used for these things, as well as kitchen cabinets and fitted wardrobes, shouldn’t be compromised.

“When you use these areas of the home every single day you want the materials to be durable so they last you a long time. Having to replace them can be expensive.”

Five home projects you shouldn’t cut corners on:

    1. Flooring

Low quality flooring can wear out easily and cause you problems in the future. If it’s not installed properly it can also lead to squeaky and creaking floors which can be an expensive hassle to solve. Opt for higher quality materials and use trusted professionals to install the flooring.

    1. Kitchen cabinets

The kitchen is one of the most used rooms in a home so it’s important to have good quality cabinets, drawers and worktops that can withstand constant everyday use. Replacing kitchens can be extremely expensive so invest in good quality cabinets from the beginning.

    1. Fitted furniture

Fitted wardrobes and other furniture is becoming more and more popular to help maximise the space in homes. While you can fit these yourself, it’s important to get the correct materials and measurements from a professional company.

    1. Tiling

More and more people on TikTok are sharing videos of them retiling their kitchens and bathrooms but it’s not as easy as it may look. There’s a lot of steps involved in the process and little room for error. If you make a mistake, it’s hard to fix it.

    1. Painting

Painting the odd room is definitely something you can do yourself but when it comes to painting an entire house you may want to hire professionals. A good finish requires plenty of time, prep and patience.
