A former homeware and DIY store in the Shropshire town of Craven Arms is due to go under the hammer at Bond Wolfe’s next auction.

The former J Mart premises, on Ludlow Road, Craven Arms, will have a guide price* of £275,000+ in the livestreamed auction on Thursday 11 September.

James Mattin, managing director and auctioneer at Bond Wolfe, said: “These freehold retail/warehouse premises were previously on the market with another auctioneer in November with a guide price of £395,000.

“We are confident that, with the attractive price we have set, property investors, retailers and developers alike will find this lot of considerable interest when it comes up for sale in our livestreamed auction.”

The building was previously home to J Mart, which has shops in Hereford, Leominster, Kington, Ross-on-Wye, Ledbury, and Malvern. They sell a range of homeware, DIY and garden goods.

It comprises a substantial detached building on a roughly level, rectangular plot extending to almost a third of an acre, providing parking, yardage and loading.

Mr Mattin said: “There is the potential for alternative use of these premises, subject to securing the necessary planning consents.”

The property has 3,857 sq ft of retail space on the ground floor, with 366 sq ft of ancillary storerooms. A rear mezzanine retail area extends to 4,220 sq ft. In total the premises extend to 8,443 sq ft, while the rear covered parking area is around 3,905 sq ft.

The rear area provides parking for around 14 vehicles, while there is also off road parking for several vehicles to the front of the premises. The site itself is enclosed by fencing and double gates to the roadside boundary.

The property sits on the western side of the A49 trunk road/Ludlow Road close to the centre of the rural Shropshire market town of Craven Arms.

South of the property is a veterinary practice and residential premises while to the western side is the Cardiff/Manchester railway line. To the north is Craven Arms Bowling Club. On the opposite side of the road is a row of homes.

Shrewsbury is approximately 20 miles to the north and Hereford just over 30 miles to the south, with Leominster and Ludlow in between. There is also a mainline railway station in Craven Arms.

The former J Mart store will be among 207 lots appearing in Bond Wolfe’s next auction, which is due to start at 8.30am on Thursday 11 September.

The auction will be livestreamed via Bond Wolfe’s website with remote bidding by proxy, telephone or internet.
