The Next Generation Design Pavilion Project organised by Scale Rule, a Community Interest Company, will start again this year in London. It offers young students (13-16 year olds) that come from a non-traditional industry background the chance to sign up for a series of interactive workshops to design and build a pavilion.

The two-day workshop will take place during the 10th and the 11th of February and it will be a mix of short talks from professionals about architecture and engineering, and design workshops that will allow the youngsters to put into practice what they have learnt.

The teams of 2-5 will design a pavilion that will be part of Clerkenwell Design Week in Central London. The will be given a set of materials that will have to be used to create concept sketches and models and draw the fundamental engineering views of the pavilion. At the end of the workshop, the teams will present their design to a panel of architects and engineers. The winning project will be used as the basis for the real pavilion, which all participants can help build in May 2018.

The Next Generation Design represents a great opportunity for young students to develop an understanding of what architects and engineers do and decide whether or not it is something they would like to study for their A-levels, to gain experience for their personal statement and to enjoy a creative weekend.

As well as being an experience for the students, it also provides young architects and engineers with the opportunity to manage a project from inception through to completion. The volunteers will be able to contribute to the community and develop hands-on teaching, designing, and construction skills.

This will be the fourth edition of the project organised in London and those wishing to attend it can register online until the 28th of January.
