Property development company Rushbond has made further progress in Leeds, as the purchase of a four-storey building from Evans Property Group has been made, between Harper Street and New York Street in the city.

Independent Leeds-based chartered surveyors Carter Towler have acted on behalf of Evans Property Group for the deal alongside joint agent JLL, and it appears that both sides are very happy with the way things have turned out.

“This has been a particularly satisfying project to work on as both Evans Property Group and Rushbond are longstanding clients of ours” said Richard Fraser, the director of Carter Towler. “The building is in a really good location and has lots of potential. It will be interesting to see what Rushbond, who has a proven track recording successful urban renewal, do with it.”

This news follows the revelations that the company’s plans to turn former nightclub Majestic in Leeds city centre into a six-storey office facility had been recommended for approval after many signs were suggesting that the proposals would be rejected.

Organisations such as Historic England, the Cinema Theatre Association and Twentieth Century Society had all objected based on the fact that they believed that features such as the circular light-well and the Palm Court which still remain should not be lost, but it appears that the plans are set to go ahead anyway.

A statement from the chief planning officer of Leeds City Council has said, “Given the considerable number of advantages which this scheme would bring to both the building and the area in general it is considered that, on balance, these outweigh the less than substantial harm to the original fabric of the building to which objections had been raised”.

So it looks like all is on the up for Rushbond, as the company are making great developments in the city of Leeds.
