VIVID has completed the redevelopment of the historic Brickworks Museum site in Bursledon, unveiling 12 new affordable homes now available to customers.
Delivered in partnership with Imperial Homes, the development features a collection of two- and three-bedroom houses designed in traditional Flemish bond brickwork — echoing the cottage-style homes once occupied by brickworks employees. These homes combine heritage character with modern living and will be offered through a mix of social rent and shared ownership, helping to meet local housing needs.
As part of the project, VIVID purchased the land from The Brickworks Museum, enabling the careful renovation and preservation of two Grade II listed Victorian brick drying sheds. Originally built in 1897, the sheds were once part of a thriving industrial site that produced over 20 million bricks each year.
“This development is about more than just bricks and mortar—it’s about creating a vibrant, connected community in a location rich with history,” said Tristan Samuels, Group Development & New Business Director at VIVID. “We’re proud to offer customers high-quality homes that they can truly call their own.”

Imperial Homes Land Director, Ben Olds, added: “We’re delighted to hand over The Brickworks to VIVID, delivered on schedule and in such a unique, listed setting. A special thanks goes to our site foreman, David Richards, whose decades of experience helped ensure the project ran smoothly from start to finish.”
Andy Elford, Chair of the Bursledon Brickworks Museum Trust, praised the development: “We’re really pleased with the finish achieved by Imperial Homes using traditional bricks. The homes are in keeping with the museum’s ethos and values, and we look forward to welcoming our new neighbours.”
This redevelopment not only provides much-needed affordable housing but also safeguards an important piece of local history — breathing new life into the very site where the bricks that built countless homes were once made.
