Cranfield University Begins Planning for Campus Revamp

Cranfield University has started plans for its outdoor revamp, with its campus set to have one of the most high profile landscape architects in the UK to develop its new outdoor spaces.

Landscape architect firm OOBE has secured the three year commission from Cranfield University and have incorporated Dr Nigel Dunnett as part of the project team.

Dr Dunnett was a major contributor to the horticultural transformation at the London 2012 Olympic Park.

He will be working in conjunction with the OOBE team on the Cranfield University scheme, which will witness the development of a landscape change throughout the campus.

A number of large developments across the university are already coming close to being completed.

OOBE was shortlisted for the commission along with 20 other landscape architecture practices, and won through during the final interview stage.

The inclusion of Dr Dunnett on the scheme marks the start of a new era for the company, which was formed only six years ago.

Oliver Smith, OOBE Director, said that Cranfield University is a world leader in its area and they are thrilled to be given the commission to redevelop its outdoor spaces around its main Bedfordshire Campus.

Smith continued:  “Our innovative approach, complemented by the outstanding input from Dr Nigel Dunnett, proves that our collaboration with the very best in the industry is one that will serve us well as we seek to grow in the UK and further afield.

“We’re proud to be at the forefront of delivering ambitious, inclusive and eye catching landscape proposals for the university which has conducted a lot of research into water management.”
