Households are being offered easy-to-follow cleaning tips to get their ovens looking as good as new for Christmas.

The experts at MuscleFood.com have revealed seven cupboard essentials which can be used to remove stubborn oven stains and ensure it’s ready to cook the big Christmas dinner.

Ovens can be a burden to clean if stains and grease have been left to fester for weeks or even months.

Built-up grime can also contaminate food and cause unpleasant odours to linger in the kitchen.

The experts are urging Brits to use staple cupboard items like white vinegar and lemons to clean their ovens to prevent poisoning the Christmas dinner.

Ashleigh Tosh, from MuscleFood.com, said: “The last thing anybody wants is to poison a loved one on Christmas due to a filthy oven.

“That’s why we’re urging everyone to get on top of the oven cleaning to prevent ruining the big Christmas dinner.

“Common household items like baking soda and washing up liquid can help remove stubborn grease stains in a matter of minutes.

“Make sure to use a non-abrasive sponge to clean off the residue and wipe it down afterwards with a microfibre cloth to remove streak marks off the oven door.”

Here are seven ways to clean an oven in minutes:

    1. Washing up liquid

Simply put washing-up liquid onto the areas of oven dirt and give it a firm scrub with a non-abrasive sponge. The liquid can help the oven shine in minutes.

    1. White vinegar

A 30p bottle of white vinegar can be a cleaning miracle if you need to clean an oven quickly. Use a mix of white vinegar and distilled water in a spray bottle to get rid of tough stains. When used on an oven door, wipe it down with a microfibre cloth to remove any streak marks.

    1. Baking soda

Sprinkle baking soda onto a sponge to remove tough grease and grime. The substance acts as an abrasive which can help get rid of stains quickly and efficiently.

    1. Steam cleaning

Make sure the steam is directly contacting the toughest stains in the oven as it can help loosen the dirt so it’ll be easier to wipe off. Have the oven completely cooled down before steam cleaning and remove any racks inside.

    1. Salt

Salt can help loosen oven dirt which refuses to move. Ensure the oven is thoroughly wiped down before cooking to prevent a salty Christmas dinner.

    1. Lemons

The citrus in lemons will help to cut through the grease and will leave a fresh scent when you open the oven door. It’s worth spraying white vinegar onto the lemon and giving the oven a firm scrub for better results.

    1. Cornstarch

Cornstarch can help remove any spillages in the oven as the substance is effective in absorbing moisture. It won’t work well on grease stains by itself but it’s worth having it on standby, as when mixed with white vinegar it can work as an effective cleaning solvent.
