A team representing Bellway North London trekked 27km over the Black Mountains in Wales and raised more than £6,000 for a national charity that supports vulnerable young people.

The group of four Bellway employees tackled the Youth Adventure Trust Housebuilder Challenge 2024, which saw 32 teams from companies in the construction industry take on the mountainous route within Bannau Brycheiniog (formerly Brecon Beacons) National Park.

The Bellway North London quartet consisted of Sales Director Greg Allsop, Managing Director of the Barking Project Team David Burns, Technical Director Francis Dickinson and Head of Customer Service David McMillan.

They completed the route in the fourth fastest time, crossing the finish line after six hours and 34 minutes. The team raised £6,183 which was the second highest total realised by any group.

The Youth Adventure Trust provides vulnerable young people with the opportunity to use outdoor activities, including gorge walking, canoeing, climbing, archery, coasteering and caving, alongside one-to-one support, to build resilience, develop confidence and learn skills that will last a lifetime.

Greg said: “It was a real pleasure to be able to support the Youth Adventure Trust, an organisation which uses outdoor adventure to inspire children who have faced difficulty so far in life, as well as to complete a challenge with fellow Bellway colleagues and experience the beautiful Black Mountains in late summer.

“The route was challenging with some steep ascents, as well as having the challenge of navigating using a map and compass. Thankfully our team had experience of navigating similar terrain, although we did manage to take a few unplanned detours!

“There is so much pressure on children and young adults growing up in today’s society, alongside more serious cases of abuse, bullying and neglect. The Youth Adventure Trust offers these young people a chance to escape, to learn new skills and to be independent, in a safe and welcoming environment, and we are proud to have raised money to support this work.”
