It is expected that thousands of jobs are going to be created and unseen potential is going to be created in the North of Liverpool, thanks to a new £20 million road link which will extend Leeds Street to the waterfront in what will be the first new city centre road link in Liverpool for over a decade.

The new plans are part of the city council’s £250 million Better Roads Programme, and a meeting will take place on Friday 6th January that will see Liverpool City Council cabinet members launching a consultation exercise regarding the project.

The proposals state that the new road will run via the Bath Street roundabout to Princes Parade, and there are hopes that this new development will just be the starting point of similair projects in the future for the North of Liverpool, with congestion in the city also expected to be significantly reduced should these plans be accepted.

“This new link road is a critical piece in our masterplan to unlock the vast potential of North Liverpool and generate thousands of new jobs” commented Councillor Malcolm Kennedy, the cabinet member for regeneration at Liverpool City Council. “Along with the other major improvements to the A565, the extension of Leeds Street will ease congestion around the city centre. It will also improve the desirability of the area to investors, aiding nearby schemes such as Pall Mall and Liverpool Waters.”

There are also plans being put into place to replace the bridge on Great Howard Street and create a new dual carriageway along the A565, but should the £20 million road link proposals be accepted then the completion of it is likely to result in the closure of Paisley Street.

These are exciting times in terms of development in the North of Liverpool, and if the council’s cabinet does give the plans the green light then work is expected to begin immediately.
